Ayari Daigongen

The dancing Daigongen created in 1996 by the Ayari Daigongen Preservation Society is the largest in Japan with a lion's head measuring 2 meters square and weighing 200 kg, and has been passed down as a traditional dance in the region. It is a symbol of Gongenmai. The giant lion's head is operated by two people using an excavator, and its dynamic movements captivate the audience. It is held once every five years in the Ayari area, and is demonstrated at the five-year festival and New Year's Day.

Imadeyama

Mount Imade, towering over the urban area of ​​Ofunato City, is 756 meters above sea level. The view overlooking Ofunato Bay and the city area, as well as the Pacific Ocean and the Karakuwa Peninsula is spectacular. When the azaleas bloom, the area around the mountaintop is dyed bright red, and when you look up from the national highway, it looks as if the mountain is on fire. Once you reach the top of the mountain, you can take a walk through a large colony of blooming azaleas. From the top of the mountain, you can see the azaleas in full bloom, the city below, and even the blue ocean. [Blooming period] Late May to early June

Choanji Temple

A temple of the Otani sect of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism that was built approximately 900 years ago in the city. It is one of the most famous temples in Tohoku and is a branch temple of Higashi Honganji in Kyoto. The original building was destroyed by fire, and the current one was later rebuilt. Among them, the Sanmon gate is approximately 20 meters high and is made entirely of zelkova, and the Taiko-do hall was built approximately 270 years ago in the style of Momoyama architecture.
