What is a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter?
National Government Licensed Guide Interpreters are defined in the Licensed Guide Interpreters Act as "those who receive compensation, and provide interpreted guidance (the act of accompanying foreign nationals and providing travel-related guidance in a foreign language)." National Government Licensed Guide Interpreters are those who have passed the national exam, have advanced foreign language skills, high-level knowledge related to tourism such as history, geography, and culture throughout Japan, and who are registered as a "National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter" by the prefecture.
About the National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter Exam

What is a Regional Licensed Guide Interpreter?
Regional Licensed Guide Interpreters are defined as "those who receive compensation, and provide interpreted guidance (the act of accompanying foreign nationals and providing travel-related guidance in a foreign language)" in individual regions. Regional Licensed Guide Interpreters are those who are well versed in the history, geography, culture, and other local information of a specific region, and who have been registered as a "Regional Licensed Guide Interpreter" through training conducted by the local government. *Currently, there are no new openings.
