Spring Kitakami Tenshochi, located on the banks of the Kitakami River, is a scenic spot that is ranked among the “Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots” and “Michinoku’s Top 3 Cherry Blossom Spots.” It is said that there are 10,000 cherry blossom trees along the approximately 2km long line of cherry blossom trees, and the tunnel of cherry blossom trees in full bloom will make you forget the passage of time.
Summer The Kitakami Michinoku Performing Arts Festival brings together over 100 groups representing Japan’s folk performing arts, including “Onikenbu” and “Shikaodori,” as well as “Kagura” and “Tauueodori.” The “Onikenbu Daigunmai” held on the second night is especially spectacular. The heroic dance performed in the middle of the bonfire will burn your eyes.
Autumn Natsuyu Onsenkyo is a secret hot spring surrounded by virgin beech forest at the northern end of Kurikoma Quasi-National Park. Taking a bath while listening to the babbling of a mountain stream amidst the brightly colored autumn leaves will soothe your mind and body.
Winter Natsuyu Kogen Ski Resort boasts the largest snowfall of any ski resort in the prefecture. The powder snow that can only be found in northern countries makes winter sports even more enjoyable.
