My Recommendations for Local Attractions and Must-See Local Tourism Information

In ancient times, Kanegasaki Town was a battlefield for the Yamato Court’s Ezo conquest, the War of Nine Years in the First Year, and the War of Later Three Years, etc. In modern times, it was a town at the northern limit of the Date Domain, bordering the Nanbu Domain, and was a stronghold. It is a town blessed with nature and historical sites, such as the historic townscape of Kanegasaki Castle’s family mansion.

Kanegasaki Castle, built on the banks of the Kitakami River, protected the northern limit of Date territory during the Edo period. A townscape of samurai residences was built around this castle, and it is still well preserved and is a very valuable townscape. Each samurai residence has a maze of winding hedges, and you can barely make it to the entrance. Samurai warriors imitated the structure of castles, which could not be easily attacked from the street, and incorporated them into their mansions. The hedge is made of Japanese cypress and cypress, and features a crape myrtle tree. Why not take a trip back in time through this alley that retains the atmosphere of the Edo period?
