One theory about the discovery of Shidodaira Onsen is that during the Enryaku era (end of the 8th century), Sakanoue Tamuramaro was attacked by a bandit's arrow during his conquest of Toi, and a soldier who suffered pain was healed by soaking his wounds in this hot spring. Today, there is a hotel that resembles a large spa resort, complete with the famous Senninburo and private open-air baths.
The hot springs are effective against rheumatism, neuralgia, gastrointestinal diseases, skin diseases, and women's diseases.
