Heading east on National Route 106 from Morioka City and passing through the tunnel of the mountain pass, you will reach Kukai Kogen. From the roadside station ``Kukai Kogen'', you can see Mt. Kabuto Myojin, making it the perfect place to take a break from your drive. It is fully equipped with features such as dining at a restaurant with an extensive menu, a souvenir shop stocking not only local specialties but also products from nearby areas, and an information center where you can purchase tourist information.

Pickles Gakkura no Sato

This pickled radish is called ``Gakkurazuke'' because of the way it is cut off with a machete. These handmade pickles are painstakingly made by local mothers using Japanese radish grown in Kawai, Miyako City. There are normal types that bring out the flavors of kimchi, shiso plum vinegar, and sukikonbu.

This healthy drink is made by blending the extract of black flat beans (gankui beans), a specialty of the Kawai region of Miyako City, with pure honey harvested at the foot of Mt. Hayachine. Black beans contain a lot of saponin and iron, and saponin in particular is said to be good for the throat and has been used for a long time.

pumpkin ramen

Pumpkin ramen is made with powdered pumpkin grown in the Niisato area and kneaded into the dough, giving it a distinctive yellow noodle. It is also rich in beta-carotene. It is popular at the cafeteria inside the Niisato Furusato Bussan Center for its soft yet chewy texture. We also sell them individually with the sauce at the product center, so you can enjoy the deliciousness at home.
