tsunami stone

A large stone, ``Tsunami Stone,'' about 3 meters wide and 2 meters high, was found buried underground near Yoshihama Beach in Sanriku-cho, Ofunato City, where the tsunami hit during the Great East Japan Earthquake. This stone was brought from the sea during a past major tsunami and placed as a memorial, and the words ``Tsunami Memorial Stone'' are engraved on its surface. "Tsunami memorial stone, approximately 200 meters in front, near the mouth of the Yoshihama River, a glaring stone that was struck on the edge of the tsunami on March 3, 1930, weighing 8,000 kan."

Anadoriiso

This is a landscape that represents the Goishi Coast. This strangely shaped rock has three large holes in its base caused by seawater erosion, and you will be amazed at the ingenuity of nature's formation. You can also take a small pleasure boat through this hole.

Goishi Lavender Garden

Did you know that there is a lavender field in Suesaki-cho, Ofunato City? When you think of lavender fields, you think of Hokkaido, but there are actually ones in Ofunato! When it blooms, the area is filled with its refreshing scent and a carpet of purple spreads out. It may not be well known even locally, but the city hosts the Goishikaigan Lavender Picking Party every year. Participation is free, and the event is said to be an opportunity to heal your daily fatigue by experiencing the refreshing scent.
