The name of the brand dates back to the ancient times when Mt. Iwate was the habitat of the giant eagle and was also known as Mt. Iwawashi (Ganju-san), so the name ``Washi-no-o'' came from the meaning of the sake brewery at the foot of the mountain. It is also said that when the snow melts in early spring, the remaining snow on Mt. Iwate, which can be seen from the sake brewery, looks like a giant eagle with its wings spread. Handmade miso made by carefully maturing local soybeans and high-quality koji. We continue to carefully make our products using the traditional, additive-free, natural brewing method. In addition to miso, we also sell pickles and sweet sake.

Appi Lacquerware Workshop

The former Ashiro town was blessed with high-quality lacquer and raw wood, and was widely known as ``Arasawa lacquerware'' since the feudal period. Production was sluggish after the war due to the rise of plastic lacquerware, but Ashiro Shikki Kobo continues this tradition and continues to create easy-to-use lacquerware under the new name ``Appi-nuri.'' Using a generous amount of domestic lacquer, it is coated over 10 times from the base to the top coat, and is attractive for its vivid color and the deeper flavor that emerges the more you use it.
