“Kita Iwate Learning Program” Hirono Town Edition

The tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake destroyed fishing facilities along the coast, but the 12m-high seawall greatly attenuated the tsunami, so much of the residential areas were not damaged, and the sea, mainly in the Yagi area, was destroyed. Although nearby houses were damaged, there were no casualties or missing people. In addition, agriculture focuses on shiitake mushrooms and cold spinach in the former city and town, sea urchins and sea squirts in the fishing industry, and livestock and dairy farming in the former Ohno village.
