According to one theory, the discovery of Shidodaira Hot Spring is said to have originated in the Enryaku era (late 8th century), when a soldier was hit by a bandit's arrow during the conquest of the East by Sakagami Tamuramaro, and his wound was cured after soaking it in this hot spring. Today, there is a hotel reminiscent of a large scale spa resort, complete with the famous Senninburo (one thousand person bath) and private open-air baths.
The hot spring is effective for rheumatism, neuralgia, gastrointestinal disorders, skin diseases, and women's diseases.
