Oyone Jizo statue

``Rice = Oyone'' that appears in the song ``Sawauchi Jinku'' It is said that in the past, it was a rice-growing area called the Hidden Rice Field of the Nanbu domain, and was said to have a rice yield of 1,000 koku or 3,000 koku. The Great Tenpo Famine struck the village, and in that year, it was difficult not only to receive annual tax rice, but also to survive the famine, and the villagers, who were at a loss, offered a daughter named Kome to the feudal lord in exchange for annual tax rice. The village was saved, but the rice never returned. A rice Jizo erected to honor the daughter's dedication is enshrined on the grounds of Joenji Temple.

Floating island in Yukawa-numa (prefecture-designated natural monument)

About 3km from the inner hot springs of Yukawa Onsen is the bluish Yukawa Marsh. It was designated as a prefectural natural monument as the ``Floating Island of Yukawa Marsh'' (March 8, 1966). The appearance of dozens of large and small floating islands, each about 1 meter wide, floating on the water's surface, created by the wind, is a fascinating sight.

In Nishiwaga Town, from late April to mid-May, when the snow disappears, trees begin to bud and a variety of flowers begin to bloom all at once. Among them, the clusters of ``Katakuri flowers and skunk cabbage'' are spectacular and eye-catching. Katakuri flowers, yellowtail flowers near Yagasawa and the Galaxy Plateau, and skunk cabbage flowers at Hiruyama, Yagasawa, Kaizawa, and Togeyama.
