Toriyazaki Shrine

Rebuilt in 1313, Toriyazaki Castle had three castle guardian shrines, but in 1536, the castle lord at the time (an ancestor of the Hidenuki clan) merged them and created Toriyazakiza Sanhashira Shrine. It was renamed. During the Keicho period (around 1600), Kitamatsusai, the lord of Hanamaki Castle, prayed to the main shrine at the start of the war and won the war, so he built a new shrine and held a grand festival during the annual festival, inviting the people of the county to take a break from work to worship. .

Hanamaki City Comprehensive Cultural Properties Center

Opened on May 22, 2011, this facility is a hub for protecting cultural assets in Hanamaki City and disseminating information. Valuable materials from the Mountain Museum, which closed on March 31, 2011, have also been transferred and are now on display.

Washi paper mache, a traditional Japanese method, is used to create colorful and cute dolls such as the 12 Zodiac series and the ``Shishiodori'', a local performing art from southern Iwate Prefecture. It has been handed down in the Hanamaki region since ancient times as a toy that brings good luck to a wealthy family, and it is also gaining popularity as a Hanamaki souvenir.
