In the latter half of the Edo period, tatara iron manufacturing flourished using the abundant iron sand available in this area. The tenugui towels used by the workers there were dyed with a unique color and were prized for their ability to repel insects. Tetsuzan dyeing has revived this technique in modern times. The only dyed product in Japan that uses spring water from the former tatara site. This is the only dyed product in the world where you don't know what the pattern will be until it's dyed.
