Iwai Shimizu Wakamizu Delivery

Ichinoseki City

Southern Iwate

January 1st every year

This is a reenactment based on the legend that during the Hiraizumi Fujiwara culture era, Lord Hidehira had villagers draw water from Iwai Shimizu on the morning of New Year's Day and deliver it by hand to the Hiraizumi Yanagi Palace. This is an annual New Year's Day event that has been held since 2017. A group of people dressed in old-style white clothing deliver wakamizu by walking the approximately 20km distance from Higashiyama-cho to Hiraizumi Chuson-ji Temple without touching the wakamizu oke to the ground.
