My Recommendations for Local Attractions and Must-See Local Tourism Information

Oshu City is made up of Esashi Ward, Maezawa Ward, Kinugawa Ward, Mizusawa Ward, and Isawa Ward.
Mizusawa Ward is a castle town of the Rusu family of the Itada clan.
The current cityscape has been developed since the beginning of the Edo period, and is shaped like the character “heart.”
In one word, it can be said to be a “city of hearts”.
The “Omachi, Yokomachi, Fukuromachi, Yanagimachi, Tatemachi, and Kawaguchimachi” that are attached to towns are places where merchants lived, and storehouses were built here and there.
Yoshikoji, Hidakakoji, Shinkoji, Ohatakoji, etc., which are often referred to as koji (koji), are places where samurai lived, and many of their descendants still live there.
Among them, the Samurai Housing Museum and Goto Shinpei’s former residence are open to the public.
The former residences of Nagahide Takano, the Takahashi family, and the Abe family are specially opened to the public mainly on festival days.
In addition, there are many achievements of our predecessors, such as “Aterui”, “More”, “Abe clan”, “Oshu Fujiwara clan”, and from the end of the Edo period to the Showa period, “Takano Nagahide”, “Saito Minoru”, “Goto Shinpei”, “Yamazaki Tame”. Toku,” “Shogo Mitsukuri,” “Tetsunosuke Yoshikawa,” and “Seiji Katagiri and Tetsu father and son,” among many others, and they decorate a page in Japanese history.
At the beginning of the Meiji era, when Mizusawa Prefecture was established, there were over 400 elementary schools, and the area placed great emphasis on education.
The 400 or more schools are located in Chikuma Prefecture (Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture), Shikama Prefecture (Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture), and Fukatsu Prefecture (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture).
Other facilities to visit include the Fire Department Memorial Museum, Choei Takano Memorial Museum, Minoru Saito Memorial Museum, Shinpei Goto Memorial Museum, Otome River Ancestor Museum, Buried Cultural Properties Research Center, Samurai Housing Museum, and Oshu There are the Space Museum and the Machinaka Exchange Center.

Mizusawa Tourism and Products Center

It opened as Z Plaza Aterui in 2002, the 1200th anniversary of Aterui’s death.
Inside the facility, we provide tourist information, local traditional crafts such as Nanbu ironware, and other products, souvenirs, and direct sales of fresh agricultural products. We also have a restaurant function, which not only provides services to tourists. This is a facility that can be used by everyone on a daily basis. It is a base for sightseeing in Mizusawa.

Mizusawa Tourism Supporter Association

We are a volunteer organization established by volunteers on December 15, 2000, in order to help customers who visit Mizusawa, a castle town with a rich history, get to know Mizusawa better. We will provide you with fun and easy-to-understand information about tourist facilities and history around Mizusawa Ward. Please use it not only for customers visiting our city, but also for those living in the city.
