My Recommendations for Local Attractions and Must-See Local Tourism Information

Dynamic scenery unique to the ria coastline and fresh seafood unique to the world’s three largest fishing grounds.
Sanriku has many recommended tourist resources

famous spot

“Kitayamazaki”…20 minutes by villager bus from Sanriku Railway Tanohata Station
The sight becomes even more impressive when you look up at the 753-step staircase, a scenic spot representing the Northern Rikuchu Coast, where the 200m high cliff continues for 8km. You can also see it from the sea on a sightseeing boat that departs from Shimagoshi Port.
In addition, the exhilarating cruising experience of skillfully navigating through strangely shaped rock holes on a Sappa boat is a thrilling experience. Please give it a try.

Affiliated Organizations, Introduction of Organizations

Sanriku Railway’s “Kita Rias Line” connects Miyako to Kuji over a total length of 71 km in approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. From Shimagoe Station to Tanohata Station, and further north from Shirai Coast to Noda-Tamagawa Station, the magnificent Pacific Ocean stretches out from the train window. The Masaki Tunnel, which connects Taro Station to Settai Station at approximately 6.5 km, is the longest mountain tunnel in Tohoku (excluding Shinkansen).

Sanriku Railway’s “Minami Rias Line” connects Mori to Kamaishi with a total length of 36.6 km in about 50 minutes. There are 19 tunnels in between, which are unique to a line that runs through the intricate terrain of a ria coastline, so it’s fun to ride while imagining a map of the Sanriku coast in your head.

Near Sanriku Station and Yoshihama Station, you can see a calm ria coastline cove from the train window, so don’t miss it!
