What started out as a side job for the samurai class during the feudal period, became a full-time job after the Meiji Restoration, and in 1920, it became one of the Hanamaki products, producing about 250,000 bottles a year. Currently, only one company produces them, but they are also popular as decorative items such as mini umbrellas and wall-hanging umbrellas.

Taiyaki

The clay was found in the hot spring resort of Mt. Manjusan, and the potters worked hard to create a robust and elegant product that could withstand the cold climate of the country. It is highly regarded as a local masterpiece.

Shinobi piece

This simple horse doll made of rice straw is unique to the Hanamaki region. There are many horse-related local toys in Japan, but this is unique to Hanamaki. Legend has it that people made straw horses for love, etc., and delivered them secretly at night to the Kannon Hall of Enmanji Temple, where they were wrapped in yellow or red cloth in gratitude for the fulfillment of their wishes.
