Koshi persimmon

Koshi persimmons are a specialty of Koshi Town in the western part of Kamaishi City.
When persimmons begin to grow in gardens in Koshi Town, you know it is autumn in Kamaishi.
Koshi persimmons are harvested and smoked in a persimmon room for about a week at an appropriate temperature to remove the astringency. After smoking, the color changes from brown to bright red, and the texture is soft and jelly-like, just like a tomato.
In autumn, the Koshi Persimmon Festival is held around the Kamaishi Sennin Touge Roadside Station.
Please come and enjoy the autumn taste of Kamaishi.
