Hydrangeas at Tendaiji Temple

Tendaiji Temple is an ancient temple with a 1200 year history.
When Jakucho went to Tendai-ji as its abbot, he called on people to revive the temple grounds, which had fallen into disrepair after the war when the cedar grove was cut down, and began planting hydrangeas. Now, in early summer, the stone steps along the approach to the temple and the temple grounds are filled with dark purple hydrangeas, adding a noble color to the old temple.
