Egne is a mansion forest that is indispensable in snow country. Trees planted on the north and west sides of the mansion play a major role in protecting it from wind and snow. Kizumas are made by piling up firewood to form a fence, and it is said that in the past people competed with each other for wealth based on the amount and length of the firewood. Both of these kizumas are symbolic of the snowy Isozawa area, which thrived mainly on rice cultivation.
