Tanohata Village

Coast

The Sugakubo Deer Dance, which has been designated as an Iwate Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Property, is a performing art in which participants wear a deer head that resembles a real deer and dance bravely like a wild deer. The deer dance is a performing art that can be seen all over the country, but the Sugakubo deer dance is unique in that it is a dynamic dance that alternates between the deer dance and the sword dance.
