It began in 1953 with the purchase of 100 Hanashobu from Horikiri-Shobuen, a famous garden in Tokyo.
Since then, Meiji Shrine and other enthusiasts from all over Japan have contributed to the garden, which is now a famous flower spot with approximately 300 varieties and 30,000 irises in bloom.
