The Ashiro district of Hachimantai City has played an important role as a transportation hub to Akita and Tsugaru since ancient times, and has developed a unique culture. We will introduce the history and culture of the Ashiro area as well as learn about the activities of our ancestors who lived in the area. There are many interesting materials such as items related to the 15th Great Priest Kojun of Higashieizan Kan'eiji Temple Gokokuin who was from the former Ashiro Town, the ``Tayama Calendar'' which is a rare picture book even in Japan, old agricultural tools, lacquerware, Jomon relics, etc. On display.

Appi plateau secondary beech forest

This is exactly what a green shower is all about. The ``secondary beech forest'' that spreads across the Appi Highlands is a beech forest that has been beautifully regenerated by the power of nature after being felled. The beautiful sunlight filtering through the leaves sways, and the sound of the treetops rustling in the wind tickles my ears. Mikaeri Pass

Climbing up the Hachimantai Aspite Line, there is a Mikaeri Pass parking lot and a mountaintop rest house at the border of Akita Prefecture, with a great view and a panoramic view of the Ura-Iwate Mountain Range that extends from Mt. Iwate. On the walking path from the parking lot to the top, there is an observation deck on the Mikaeri Pass ridgeline, from which you can see not only Mt. Iwate, but also Mt. Hayachine and Mt. Akita Komagatake. If the weather is good, you can also see Mt. Chokai.
