Yakehashiri Lava Flow (Nationally Designated Special Natural Monument)

Hachimantai City

Central Iwate

Mt. Iwate has erupted about five times in its history, most recently in 1732, and was 3km long and 1.5km wide from the spout to the end. Black, hardened lava is piled up on the northeastern slope of Mt. Iwate, making it difficult for plants to grow in this area.
