On June 29, 2011, it was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site as "Hiraizumi - a group of architectural, garden and archaeological heritage sites representing the Buddhist Pure Land".
It is a splendid group of golden cultural heritage, including Buddhist temples and Pure Land gardens, which developed independently during the last hundred years of the Heian period while accepting the culture of the capital.
Five properties have been registered: Chuson-ji Temple , Motsu -ji Temple, Kanjizaio-in Ruins, Muryoko -in Ruins, and Kinkeizan, making it the first cultural heritage site in Tohoku to be registered as a World Heritage Site.
