    Hanamaki dolls, a type of mud doll, were created during the Kyoho era by Zenshiro Ota of Hanamaki Kajicho, who learned the techniques of making Fushimi dolls in Kyoto and Tsutsumi dolls in Sendai. There are many different types of dolls, from auspicious ones such as hina dolls, Ebisu, and Daikoku, to motifs such as zodiac signs and animals.
