Lala Iwate

“Lara Iwate” is a shop selling local products that relocated from Morioka City Saien to Uchimaru and reopened in June 2021. We have a wide selection of specialty products from all over the prefecture, including Morioka, including crafts such as Nanbu ironware, famous sweets, and local sake. There will also be a farm-fresh corner selling fresh vegetables from around the prefecture, as well as local specialty product fairs and other events.

During the feudal period, there were markets all over Morioka Castle. Much of it has been lost to the times, but Morioka still has a market of simple humanity. Ihatov Avenue, lined with monuments to Kenji Miyazawa, is 400 meters long. The streets are lined with shops, and the streets are filled with shoppers. Nanbu Ironware (Morioka)

Nanbu ironware, which has a wide variety of types and uses, from stately tea kettles, iron kettles, and modern pots to accessories such as wind chimes, is a representative traditional craft of Iwate. The area around Morioka has long been rich in raw materials for iron sand, river sand, clay, lacquer, and charcoal, making it ideal for producing castings. It is said that Nanbu ironware began when the lord of the Nanbu domain hired casters and pot makers from Koshu and Kyoto to make tea ceremony pots, weapons, temple bells, and other items. Since the Meiji era, Nanbu ironware has received high praise overseas, and in 1975, Nanbu ironware was designated as the first traditional craft in Japan.
