Kogensha is the publisher of Kenji Miyazawa's collection of children's stories, ``Restaurant with Many Orders,'' published before his death. Although it is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Japanese fairy tale literature, it was not talked about at the time and hardly sold. In the courtyard facing the Kitakami River, there is a monument marking the place where the book was published, a stone pillar carved with part of the fairy tale ``The Crow's Big Dipper,'' and there is also a museum exhibiting Kenji's handwritten manuscripts. In addition, at the ``Kakaikan'' coffee room, which has a pleasant atmosphere decorated with stained glass, you can enjoy hand-brewed coffee and the famous ``walnut cookies.''

Ishikawa Takuboku Poetry Monument (Morioka Castle Ruins Park (Iwate Park))

In the Morioka Castle Ruins Park, there is a monument with the famous poem ``Fifteen Hearts Lying on the Grass of the Unwanted Castle, Breathing in the Sky.'' Morioka Castle's Ninomaru is where Takuboku escaped from his school window as a boy, read literary and philosophical books, and ended his daydreams. The text on the monument is written by Kyosuke Kindaichi.

Mikoda morning market

During the feudal period, there were markets all over Morioka Castle. Much of it has been lost to the times, but Morioka still has a simple and humane market. The Mikoda morning market, which has been popular as the citizens' kitchen for many years, is the largest cooperative type market in Japan. If you turn down an alley in a complicated residential area at 5 a.m., you'll find vegetables, wild plants, fresh flowers, fruits, pickles, and more lined up on mats spread out by farmers.
