Located in the Asai Chifuku Atago Shrine repository, this is a National Important Cultural Property. 　It is said to have been made by Jikaku Daishi in 850 (Kasho 3). 175 cm high. Carved from a single piece of horse chestnut using a machete, it has a clear round eye, which is rare. Normally closed. Advance reservations are required.

Tateyama Historical Park (Iwayado Castle Honmaru Ruins)

This is the site of the castle of a powerful family that ruled this area from ancient times. It is said to have been the site of a fortress built by Fujiwara no Tsuneakiyo and his son Kiyohira in the late Heian period. An octagonal hall building and Niseiin Temple (where Buddhist statues are preserved) were erected to commemorate the great deeds of the father and son, Tsuneakiyo and Kiyohira. Visitors can enjoy the seasonal scenery of cherry blossoms, hydrangeas, and maple trees. Niseiin Temple is usually closed. It is opened twice a year (May and August).

Takano Choei Memorial Museum

Memorial Hall for Choei Takano (1804-1850), a pioneer of the late Edo period. Located in a corner of Mizusawa Park, the hall displays portraits and letters. Among them, the "Kakubu Shibun," a poem written by Choei in prison on what appears at first glance to be a blank piece of paper, is a valuable document that secretly expresses his intention to escape from prison. 　Many of the materials in the museum are designated as National Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
