Kimura Sakae Memorial Museum

Memorial Hall for Sakae Kimura (1870-1943), the astronomer who discovered the Z term. To honor the achievements of Dr. Sakae Kimura, the first director of the Latitude Observatory, who discovered the observational unknown "Z term" in 1892 and is world-renowned, the observatory was preserved in its original state when it was opened (in 1897) and turned into a memorial hall. From Mizusawa Esashi Station, transfer to the "Iwate Kotsu Haneda Ofunato Line Mizusawa Station Dori Bus Stop" and go to the Observatory Mae Bus Stop.

Hidaka Shrine

It is said to have been founded in the first year of Konin (710) in the early Heian period, and rebuilt in the first year of Shocho (1428). On the grounds is the Tachiarai River Monument, where Yawata Taro Yoshiie is said to have washed the sword with which he killed Abe Sadato. The main shrine is designated as a national important cultural property. It is also known as the shrine for the Hidaka Fire Prevention Festival.

Kakuzuka Tumulus, a nationally designated historic site

The Kakuzuka Tumulus is the northernmost keyhole-shaped tumulus on Honshu and is a nationally designated historic site. It was built 1,500 years ago and is thought to be the cemetery of the local ruling family. According to legend, the wife of the Takayama sweeper turned into a large snake and was tormenting the farmers, but Sayohime used the power of sutras to slay the snake and bury the snake's horn. It is said that this tumulus is. On the north side of the tumulus, there is a pocket park that is set up in the style of a Japanese garden and is quite interesting.
