Kuroyachi Wetland

From the Kuroyachi bus stop, walk along the gentle promenade for about 15 minutes to reach the Kuroyachi Wetland. The pond, which reflects the blue sky and white clouds, was created when ejecta from a volcano blocked the flow of a river. On the banks of a quiet wetland surrounded by a forest of Japanese fir trees, alpine plants such as daylily, chinese plovers, goldenrod, and cottontail are in full bloom. The water hole called ``Kuma no Izumi'' is a great place to take a break.

Akiko Ema’s poetry monument

Akiko Ema, famous for writing the lyrics for ``Summer Memories'' and ``Hana no Machi,'' lived in Hiratate Village (currently Hiratate District, Hachimantai City) when she was a child, and had a great influence on her own works. As a result of this, monuments of poetry have been erected throughout the town. Location: Hiratate Community Center, Poetry Garden (in front of the city library), Yakehashiri Campsite

Appi Highland Nakano Ranch

A grassland area with a gap in the middle of a primeval forest of beech and mountain birch. It is surrounded by abundant nature and is the perfect location for picnics. Nakano Farm is covered in natural grass, and in early summer the area is filled with red azaleas (flowering period: early to late June).
