Kabuto Myojindake

As you head east from Morioka on National Route 106, you can see a particularly high rocky peak above the Kukai Plateau called Kabuto Myojindake (1,005m above sea level). It takes about 1 hour and is an easy hike. A popular loop course is the one that climbs straight up the northern ridge from the Kukai Kogen Walking Center. If you follow the single road surrounded by larch and birch trees, you will reach the junction with Mt. Miharuyama. After passing through a meadow, a mountain hut surrounded by trees, and a natural grass field, you will reach the top of a sharp rock. The Ou Mountains, including Mt. Iwate, spread out below.

Hayachine Mountain

Hayachimine, the highest peak in the Kitakami Mountains, rises 1,917 meters above sea level. Of the three trails, the Kawarabo Course and the Odagoe Course are the most common. Although the slopes are steep, even beginners can reach the summit in about 3 hours. Hayachimine, famous for its alpine flora, also offers beautiful autumn foliage in the forest zone, and the vivid autumn colors at the foot of Hayachimine, composed of serpentine rock, make for a magnificent panoramic view from the fifth station as well as from the base of the mountain. Hayachimine was designated as a national quasi-national park in 1982. The trail is closed for the time being because part of the Kawarabo trail collapsed due to heavy rains on May 26, 2008, making it impassable. A single cherry tree in Kamegamori

Oyamazakura is located in a corner of Kamegamori Pasture at an altitude of 800m. *To restore the vigor of the tree, dead branches, etc. were cut down and pruned, and soil improvement was carried out in the fall of 2019.
