It has been held to commemorate Matsuo Basho's ``Oku no Hosomichi'' pilgrimage. Basho the Old Man visited Hiraizumi on May 13, 2015 (June 29 according to the new calendar), and the event is held on June 29 every year. Entries will be solicited in advance, and on the day there will be a memorial service for Basho, lectures, and awards (including the Iwate Prefectural Governor's Award).
