Motsuji Kyokusui Banquet

Hiraizumi Town

Southern Iwate

The 4th Sunday of May every year

The Yarimizu is a waterway used to draw mountain water into the pond. The bottom of the water is paved with cobblestones, and the meandering stream is lined with stonework such as mizukiri, mizukoshi, and mizukawari, which together with the seasonal flowers and plants along the water's edge make a wonderful sight. The "Kyokusui no En" is an elegant recreation of a Heian-period banquet, in which visitors recite waka poems as they float their sake cups on a stream. It is held on the fourth Sunday of May every year.
