Kitakami Tenshochi has been selected as one of the top 100 cherry blossom spots in Japan, and is one of the three major cherry blossom spots in Michinoku, along with Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, and Kakunodate Town, Akita Prefecture. The approximately 2km long line of cherry blossom trees along the Kitakami River becomes a tunnel of cherry blossoms that gently welcomes visitors. Also, at night, it is lit up, creating a magical atmosphere. During the festival, sightseeing horse-drawn carriages pass between the trees, sightseeing boats and ferries pass along the river, and 300 carp streamers swim in the sky.
*Ferry boats and sightseeing cruise ships will be suspended in 2020.
