On a cold winter night in Tono, men, with large bells in the lead, walk about 300 meters between Ganryu Shrine and Koshin Tower on the outskirts of town, in hopes of fulfilling their prayers for the safety of their families and good health. It is a traditional event since ancient times where the participants solemnly walk back and forth three times while wearing these. It is said that men in the local area who are experiencing bad luck participate in three consecutive years of Mae-yaku, Honyaku, and Post-Yaku to ward off misfortune.
