Second Saturday in June every year

This event is held to comfort the horses that share the hardships of farming with the farmers. The horses are adorned with luxurious clothes and many bells, and they make a pilgrimage to a shrine. About 60 horses that have made a pilgrimage to Onigoe Sozen Shrine in Takizawa City march about 14 km to Hachimangu Shrine in Morioka City, ringing a bell and chugging along the way for about 4 hours. In 1996, the festival was selected as one of the "100 Best Sound Sceneries in Japan" by the Ministry of the Environment. This event, which used to be held on May 5 of the lunar calendar, has been held on June 15 since 1958, and on the second Saturday of June since 2001.
