Okago Christian Martyrdom Park
At the beginning of the Edo period, more than 300 Christians were martyred in the Okago area of Fujisawa-cho, Ichinoseki City, also known as the Shimabara of Tohoku. The Martyrdom Park was created to convey to the present the noble history of martyrdom of Okago's predecessors, who persevered in their faith despite any persecution. The Cruz Hall in the park displays sculptures by sculptor Yasutake Funakoshi, and the historical museum recreates the appearance of the time with martyrdom dioramas and other displays. Please use the city bus to access Martyrdom Park. For more information, please see "Access" on the Martyrdom Park homepage.
