A roadside station attached to Rikuchu-Noda Station on the Sanriku Railway. As the bronze statue of the Ushikata (Ushikata) transporting salt with oxen in front of the village shows, salt production was once popular in the village, and during the feudal period, the Ushikata carried the salt on the backs of their oxen on a road called the ``Salt Road'' from Morioka to Akita. carried through. Inside the museum, there are models showing how salt was made, as well as salt making tools such as colanders and vats, which convey the hardships faced by people at the time. Another popular item is ``Nodashio Beko no Michi'', which is made using traditional methods. There is also a farm-fresh corner next to the restaurant, which is popular for ``Noda Shio Ramen,'' and the local product store, where fresh vegetables, seafood, and local flavors are sold.

Natural salt making experience

Noda salt, which has a long history, was made using a method called ``direct boiling salt,'' in which seawater was boiled down directly. In 1945, just after the end of the war, more than 130 salt pots were said to have been built on the Tofugaura coast, and at a time when rice was 5 yen per sho, salt was 35 yen per sho. It is said that they were traded at even higher prices in Morioka and Akita. With the discontinuation of self-sufficient salt production in 1949, the tradition temporarily ceased, but has been revived as an experience event in recent years. This ``experience of making natural salt'' can be done at Eboshi-so.

Nodagama Gallery IZUMITA

A gallery run by Yukiya Izumida, a ceramic artist from Rikuzentakata City who has received high praise in numerous contests. In addition to soil from Noda Village, he continues to create works with a focus on local materials, such as using loose ore from the Noda Tamagawa Mine. Here you can purchase a variety of carefully crafted and fired works, ranging from highly artistic items to practical items. The Nodayaki workshop is adjacent to the Asian Folk Art Museum. You can also make a reservation and try your hand at making one-of-a-kind Nodayaki.
