    Nanbu ironware, which has a wide variety of types and uses, from stately tea kettles, iron kettles, and modern pots to accessories such as wind chimes, is a representative traditional craft of Iwate. The area around Morioka has long been rich in raw materials for iron sand, river sand, clay, lacquer, and charcoal, making it ideal for producing castings. It is said that Nanbu ironware began when the lord of the Nanbu domain hired casters and pot makers from Koshu and Kyoto to make tea ceremony pots, weapons, temple bells, and other items. Since the Meiji era, Nanbu ironware has received high praise overseas, and in 1975, Nanbu ironware was designated as the first traditional craft in Japan.

    In addition to introducing the history and origin of kokeshi dolls on panels, the museum also features local toys, traditional kokeshi dolls passed down from the feudal era, southern Kinakinabo dolls, Anpo kokeshi dolls, Morioka bokko dolls, and traditional kokeshi dolls made based on Morioka's land. The original kokeshi dolls that have been created are on display. The name ``Goyo'' from Goyosha, which was founded in 1933, comes from the phrase ``Ikka Goyo, the result of opening naturally.''

    Paulownia is the prefecture's flower, and Iwate Prefecture is known as one of Japan's leading producers of paulownia. It has long been called the ``purple paulownia'' of the south, and is loved for its beautiful, slightly purplish skin. You can feel the culture of Morioka through the Nanbu paulownia geta, which is made by the only geta craftsman in Morioka and has fine grain and is light and comfortable to the touch.
