Komagata Shrine

Hidaka Shrine

It is said to have been founded in the first year of Konin (710) in the early Heian period, and rebuilt in the first year of Shocho (1428). On the grounds is the Tachiarai River Monument, where Yawata Taro Yoshiie is said to have washed the sword with which he killed Abe Sadato. The main shrine is designated as a national important cultural property. It is also known as the shrine for the Hidaka Fire Prevention Festival.

Atagoyama Nature Park

There are many rare plants in its distribution, and the Ite River flows around it. The site of Numajiri Castle is located here, and Atago Shrine, built by Tamuramaro Sakagami, is on the summit of the mountain. Take the Esashi City Bus, Ite Koujiya Kuchisawa Line (via Kami-Ite) to the Fujisato bus stop, get off at JR Tohoku Shinkansen Mizusawa Esashi Station, and transfer at the Esashi Bus Center bus stop bound for Iwate-ken Kotsu Esashi Fujiwara no Sato.

Ungiwaji Temple

Ungai-ji Temple was founded by Jikaku Daishi Ennin in 850, and was a branch temple of the mountain temple that was the predecessor of Chuson-ji Temple in Sekizan of the Tendai sect. 　In 1186, when Minamoto no Yoshitsune descended to Oshu Hiraizumi with his twelve followers and his wife Kitanokata, this temple was rebuilt by Kitanokata. After his defeat, the tablets of Yoshitsune and Kitanokata were enshrined by Zuishin priests. 　The temple was destroyed by fire in 2008. The building was rebuilt, but a replica of the tablets is on display in the History Fureaikan.
