Kojin Shrine

This is one of the places where the original landscape typical of Tono remains. Gongen-sama, enshrined in a thatched-roof shrine nestled in the rice paddies, is also called "Arakami-sama" (rough god) because legend has it that he bit off one of his ears in a fight with Gongen-sama of a neighboring district. The shrine is also called "Arakami-sama" (meaning "rough god"). The shrine is a soothing place to visit throughout the four seasons, with its reflection in the rice paddies in spring, green rice fields in summer, golden rice ears in autumn, and pure white snow in winter.

Hayachine Shrine

Hayachine Shrine, where the divine spirits of the Tono Sanzan are enshrined, is said to have its origins on June 18, 806, when Fugenbo Ichinomiya was built on the summit of the mountain to enshrine the divine spirits. Currently, the vast precincts are thickly covered with old giant cedar and cypress trees, giving the place an atmosphere of forestry. An annual festival is held on the 18th of July, and the festival is famous for the mikoshi washing process, in which the mikoshi is carried to the nearby Takigawa River and washed while being sprinkled with river water.

Tonogo Hachiman Shrine

In the 5th year of Bunji (1189), Asonuma Hirotsuna, who had served in the pursuit of the Fujiwara clan in Hiraizumi and was given Tonogo by Minamoto no Yoritomo, sent Hirofusa Uokata as magistrate and built a ``tate'' in Komarashi, Matsuzaki Village. , worshiped the guardian deity, Hachiman-kami, and ruled Tonogo. Afterwards, Hirotsuna Asonuma built Yokota Castle and invited Hachimangu Shrine to be built in Miyashiro, the Tohoku region (Kimon), and revered it. The general guardian of Tonogo.
