Kyuzo Mifune

A judoka from Kuji City. A petite person with a height of 159 cm and a weight of 55 kg, he began judo in junior high school, and after graduating, he moved to Tokyo and enrolled at the Kodokan. In 1930, he won the special match at the first All Japan Judo Championships. He studied under Sakujiro Yokoyama's instructor, 8th dan, and was promoted year by year, reaching the highest rank of 7th dan in 1923 and 10th dan in 1945. He devised many new techniques such as the ``air throw'' and became the prefecture's first Person of Cultural Merit in 1961.

We sell locally grown vegetables and grains in a one-story building made of cedar and Japanese red pine from Kuji City. At the cafeteria, the popular set menu includes ramen, zaru Chinese food, curry rice, and minced rice. Hitsumi and tofu dengaku are also recommended. The farm-fresh corner sells locally grown spinach, handmade tofu, pickles, and more, as well as seasonal ingredients such as wild vegetables in the spring and matsutake mushrooms in the fall. In addition, the school lunch bread from the local Jonai Bakery, which is very popular with everyone, comes in a wide variety of varieties, including red bean paste and cream bread. It is located along the prefectural road Toro-machi Karumai Line, making it easy to stop by, so please stop by once while driving.

Kuji City Information Exchange Center YOMUNOSU

A complex facility that combines a tourist information center and a library, opened in July 2020. Located near Kuji Station, it is a place of relaxation not only for local residents but also for people visiting for sightseeing and business. There is also a cafe corner where you can eat hamburgers made with local beef, an exhibition of costumes from the TV drama series "Ama-chan" set in Kuji City, and an observation deck overlooking the city, all of which are open to anyone.
