Rikuzentakata City Museum

The Rikuzentakata City Museum, which opened in 1955 as the first publicly registered museum in the Tohoku region, was completely destroyed in the Great East Japan Earthquake, and valuable materials were also devastated. Afterwards, with the cooperation of specialized organizations and local people from all over the country, many of the materials affected by the disaster were rescued and regenerated, and a new facility was established with the functions of the "Sea and Shellfish Museum," which also suffered devastating damage. It opened in November 2014. This is a comprehensive museum that conveys the nature, history, and culture of Rikuzentakata to the future along with the memories of the earthquake.

Kesen Carpenter and Plastering Tradition Museum

The Kesen Carpenter and Plasterer Tradition Museum was built in the citizen's forest to pass on and preserve the craftsmanship of Kesen carpenters and plasterers. Kesen cedar is used abundantly here as well, and there are three buildings with a variety of styles, such as thatched mushrooms and warehouse structures. The tea you drink in the hearth of the main building also has a special taste.

Hojumatsu of Kezoji Temple

This is a 20m tall Japanese black pine located within the grounds of Kezoji Temple, and its flowering habits are opposite to those of other trees. Ordinary pine trees have one or two female flowers at the tips of new branches, and the male flowers gather below, but in this pine, the female flowers gather in the center of the branches, and the male flowers appear above and below them. Therefore, it is called ``Hojumatsu'' because dozens of pine cones gather together and look like ``Hojumatsu''. Nationally designated natural monument (designated in 1933)
