Morioka Weeping Cherry (National Natural Monument)

This is a temple (Kitayama Ryukokuji) where Takuboku's maternal uncle was the chief priest from 1890 to 1880. It is said that Takuboku often visited here as a boy and received lessons in poetry. The precincts also contain the Morioka weeping cherry tree, a national natural monument, which is a sight to behold in the spring. Flowering period: Late April to early May

Yabukawa Soba Restaurant

``Yabukawa Soba'' is grown in a vast soba field in Yabukawa, Morioka City, which is said to be the coldest place in Honshu. In October, you can enjoy fresh soba noodles, and in the winter, the area is crowded with anglers who come to Lake Iwado to fish for smelt.
