To commemorate the virtue of Yoshitsune, who left Mt. Kuromori and headed north after being holed up for three years and three months, a shrine was built on top of his buried armor. This is Hangan Inari Shrine, and Minamoto no Yoshitsune is the enshrined deity.

Kushoji Temple

It is said that Yoshisato Minamoto, a member of the Genji clan, had his residence in Tashiro, and that Yoshitsune and his servants, who had escaped from Hiraizumi, stopped by on their way north. There is a waniguchi dedicated by Yoshisato's wife, Genji Okoma.

Kegon-in Temple

Kegon-in Temple is said to have started when Yorimoto Heiichi built a temple in Nejo, taking the name of the temple from Tametomo's Buddhist name, in order to mourn the memory of his father, Minamoto no Tametomo. At first it was Tendai sect, but later it became Soto sect after building a temple at its current location. In 1792, there was a fire that destroyed the main road, and again in 1919. The current main hall was rebuilt later.

Honshoji Temple

``What will happen? The movements of the heavens and the earth, the individual behavior of human beings, etc., are nothing more than a leaf in the autumn breeze. Let it be. That's what Musashi thought.'' Yoshikawa begins with this passage. The first draft of Eiji's ``Miyamoto Musashi'' was written at Honshoji Temple in 1930. From Morioka Minami on the Tohoku Expressway to your destination via the prefectural road, take National Route 106 to Miyako. 10 minutes by car from Miyako to Honshoji Temple (near Municipal Atago Elementary School).
