The festival is held as part of a river protection campaign to protect and nurture clear streams and to express gratitude for the blessings of Mabuchi River, the second largest river in the prefecture, which originates from Sodeyama Plateau in Kuzumaki Town and flows all the way to Hachinohe City in Aomori Prefecture. Events include a prayer festival to prevent water accidents, open-air play, and Mabuchigawa Genryu Taiko drum performances.

Sodeyama Plateau

You can see the mountain ranges of the Kitakami Highlands and the Ou Mountains, including Mt. Iwate and Mt. Himegami, and the view is especially spectacular during the season of fresh greenery. *Vehicles cannot be operated during the winter.

Seven waterfalls

It's about a 1.5km climb along Nanatakizawa, which joins the Mabuchi River from Shimofuyube. The 43m waterfall that can be seen through the thicket of trees is the third waterfall, the highest of the seven tiered waterfalls. The Japanese beech that grows wild around the waterfall is the northernmost Japanese beech and has been designated as a natural monument of the town.

Woody Forest Hall/Charcoal Science Museum

A wooden community facility with the theme of "interaction between trees, greenery, and culture." You can fully enjoy the goodness of wood with its unique structure. Inside, there is a ``charcoal science museum'' where you can see everything from the charcoal manufacturing process to the future, as well as a direct sales store for ``Kuzumaki wine,'' where you can sample wine. There are promenades and orienteering courses in the surrounding area, making it the perfect place for walks and forest bathing.
