Hakogamori

Seiichi Kashima

A businessman from Morioka City. He was adopted as a son-in-law by the Kashima group, and the group became a railway construction specialist. He devised a new construction method and took charge of construction of the Tanna Tunnel, the longest in Japan at the time, in an area with poor ground, and completed it over a period of 16 years. He also changed the group into a stock company and became its first president, and in the industry, he served as a director of the Imperial Railway Association and chairman of the Japan Mainland Construction Industry Association, promoting the modernization of the civil engineering and construction industry. There is a Kashima Seiichi Memorial Observatory on a rocky mountain to the east of Morioka City, offering a panoramic view of the mountain range centered on Mt. Iwate.

Ishikawa Takuboku Poetry Monument (in front of Morioka Station)

In the plaza in front of Morioka Station, there is a monument with a poem engraved with the words, ``Looking toward the mountains of my hometown, I have nothing to say. I am grateful for the mountains of my hometown.'' The song was composed during his time working at the Tokyo Asahi Shimbun newspaper, and its nostalgic feel is familiar to many people. Additionally, the letters ``Morioka'' posted on the outside wall of the station are a collection of letters written in Takuboku's own handwriting.

Sakurayama Shrine

It was founded in 1749. The main shrine building is located on the ruins of Sannomaru of Morioka Castle, and was worshiped as the guardian deity of the Nanbu domain. In 1926, a sword made by Kuninaga in the early Nanbokucho period was donated to Sakurayama Shrine by Nanbu Rijun. This is designated as a national important cultural property. The annual festival is held from May 25th to 27th, and includes a parade of warriors and offerings of traditional performing arts.
