The dam is located upstream of the Takinagawa River and is a scenic spot with fresh greenery in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall.With a storage capacity of approximately 38.4 million tons, it is the largest agricultural rockfill dam in Japan. In addition, it is a "parent-child dam" connected by two tunnels to the neighboring Kuzumaru Dam (water storage capacity of 5 million tons) in Ishidoriya-cho, Hanamaki City. It moistens the rice fields. Open to the public (May to November) 2nd Saturday and 3rd Wednesday 9:00-noon

Shiwa Rose Garden

A 3-minute drive from Roadside Station Shiwa, this rose garden is located on a hill overlooking the majestic Mt. Iwate to the north and the vineyards and countryside of the Akazawa area to the south. We have planted over 1,500 fragrant roses of about 610 species, which are rare even in Japan. The rose festival, which is held twice a year (early June to mid-July and early September to late October), is visited by many people from inside and outside the prefecture every day. Enjoy an elegant moment surrounded by the scent of roses in a special space with an exotic atmosphere reminiscent of southern France. Shigari Wake Shrine

Shigari Wake Shrine

Nicknamed Akaishi-san since ancient times, he has been widely revered as the guardian deity of industrial prosperity, river and maritime safety, and traffic safety. A large red stone that is said to be the origin of the word Shiwa Town is enshrined in the temple grounds. The approach to the shrine is lined with large cherry trees, and among them is the 700-year-old matchmaking cherry tree, the Minami-no-zakura, which attracts a large number of visitors in the spring.
