Designated as a natural monument by Iwate Prefecture. The tree is approximately 300 years old.
It is called "Garyubai" (lying dragon plum) because its branches grow horizontally as if crawling on the ground, looking like a dragon.
The "Osawa no Garyubai" is a strain of red plum tree that is rare nationwide.
